Sai Baba and his Golden Age

Clicking on the title of this post will take you to a (long!) list of quotations from Sai Baba about the Golden Age, which he claims to have come in order to usher in.

Interestingly, the very last quote (dated Winter 1996-1997) states the following:

"When an airplane is about to take off, it must first approach the runway. When it reaches the runway, it must make a full turn in order to face the direction of takeoff. This turn is navigated slowly by the aircraft. After the turn has been completed, the airplane receives a signal from the tower and begins to accelerate rapidly for takeoff. When the craft has reached sufficient velocity, it leaves the ground. Swami's mission has made this turn to face the runway. The 70th birthday was the signal from the tower to accelerate. In the 75th birthday, the airplane will leave the ground." (Sri Sathya Sai Newsletter, USA, 31, Winter 1996-1997, 29.)

It is exactly five years to the date Sai Baba gave for the launch of his Golden Age, and nothing has happened. It is suffice to say that this 'Golden Age' theme has been a staple of Sai-mythology for years, with devotees avidly expecting and talking about it. It was widely expected to be, literally, a worldwide change in the world situation and consciousness that brings about complete peace and harmony.

When the date passed and nothing seemed to have happened, Sai devotees immediately started speculating, "Ahhhhh! It was not literal, and maybe Swami was all along referring to something subtle or metaphorical. Yes that's right, the Golden Age has started on a subtle plane!"

Remember how Sai Baba himself gave a date for this change and there was nothing metaphorical about that. It pains me to see devotees rationalise their beliefs like this; somehow they just cannot accept the fact that their master has been full of lies and inconsistencies all along.

When you have read up on other cults with charismatic founders, you'll realise that "millenial" predictions tend to be something of a common factor. Examples of these are the Children of God, Jehovah's Witnesses and the Divine Light Mission. It becomes pitiable to see people fall for such a con, if not horrific.

All in all, a nice list of quotes with burgeoning optimism that somehow manages to shoot itself in the foot.

  • DO YOU KNOW THE NEGATIVE SIDES OF SAIBABA IT WILL BE UNVEILED

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 19 January, 2008 16:31

  • Please, be careful.

Many saints, sages and even other Avatars have said that Satya Sai Baba is the Avatar of this age. There may be things we do not understand, but to ridicule, condemn, and call an Avatar a liar is to invite horrible karmic consequences.

Please, be lean with your words. Be gentle with your speech. If there's something you don't understand, ask the Divine to give you clarification before you offer condemnation.

This is for YOU and your peace, not for me, as I am unconcerned with your opinion. I only do not wish to see you suffer horribly, as the Avatar is the mirror and what you give Him or Her -- positive or negative -- comes back multiplied many times over.

  • Dear 'Peace',

Thank you very much for your thoughts. However, the basic premise of disagreement lies in the fact that I no longer believe that Sathya Sai Baba is an 'avatar'. In this respect, he is a complete liar.

If you read certain articles on this blog (highlighted on the front page under 'Articles of Interest'), you will find many instances of responsible and critical thinking along with considered evidence. There are too many inconsistencies and inaccuracies for any reasonable person to believe that Sai Baba is God.

I take special exception to your statement: "Many saints, sages and even other Avatars have said that Satya Sai Baba is the Avatar of this age."

Who are these saints, sages and avatars? Avatars? There are more avatars around?

Please, be an open-minded person. Read through this blog, excuse the childish immaturity expressed at times, but look at the evidence. See for yourself and make your own judgement.

  • Thanks for your comments. :) Please feel free to check out the articles about Sai Baba's birthdate and claim to be Shirdi Sai reborn. There's good material there to question the whole basis of Sathya Sai. :)

  • my father is totally devoted to Sathya Sai. He is facing a lot of hardships and cant do without believing. I feel sorry for him and all the others who have no other resort but believe in him. Cant their devotion be diverted to Shirdi Sai who was a truly holy man and a real friend to the sufferring masses. This, i think is the only way to rescue the miserable followers, because they need to place their trust in some real power. Our mission should be to give them a real messiah whom they can place in their altars. Just bad-mouthing this guy wont do any good.

  • He is a cheat, liar, gay baba who is simply a cheap tricker .
Watch the BBC documentary on youtube , how he committed gay sex acts on young guys.
Ignorant people fall for his cheap trickery and consider him divine.
    WAKE UP PEOPLE.
Youtube is full of his cheap tricks and gay acts performed on young kids.
Even US consulate has a notice on website for its citizens to avoid sending their kids alone to baba.

  • I don't fall on either side of the fence with this subject. My father swears he has 'saved' by Sai Baba, and I haven't found anything concretely negative about him. But, although I've got fairly spiritual beliefs, I'm also reasonably skeptical by nature and cannot count myself as a "believer" in this spiritual leader.

    To quote The Buddha:
"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

    There's true Indian spirituality.

Saiexposeananda - I appreciate your out-spokenness on something you find highly disturbing, and I'll read some more of your blog. Speaking up against what seems like a majority takes guts and I commend you.
